Schedule of Festivities

On May 31st at 12 noon, we will open the Baltica traditional village in Tallinn’s Towers’ Square.

On May 31 at 4 pm – 7 pm, the grand opening concert of the Baltica folklore festival will take place in Tallinn Town Hall Square, preceded by a procession of participating groups from Freedom Square to the Town Hall Square.

The Baltica 2019 International Folklore Festival will take place from May 29 to June 2, 2019. In addition to the tradition village, which will be up from May 31 to June 2 in Tallinn’s Towers’ Square, where participating Baltic groups will showcase their uniqueness in song, through dancing steps and via their workshops, Baltica will visit Põlva Days, Vinni Parish Days and the Sõmeru Rural Life Festival on June 1.

 

International Folklore Festival BALTICA 2019

The International Folklore Festival BALTICA is the biggest festival of authentic folklore in the Baltic States. This year BALTICA will take place for the 32nd time. The ideology of the festival originates from the priorities of the folklore protection of UNESCO. This year the three themes are in focus – folklore of different regions of Estonia, language and festivity.

Friday, May 31st

12:00              Opening of the Folklore Village at Tornide Väljak (Square of Towers)

15:45              Procession of the participants from the Liberty Square to the Town Hall Square

16:00-18:30   Opening concert of the International Folklore Festival Baltica at the Town Hall Square

19:00              Reception of the Mayor of Tallinn for the foreign groups and guests in the Town Hall

20:00              Dance Club at the Tornide Väljak, dances and songs are taught by local and foreign groups

Saturday, June 1st

11:00-19:00 Folklore Village is open at Tornide Väljak (Square of Towers)

19:00              Dance Club at the Tornide Väljak, dances and songs are taught by the locals and foreign groups

 

“BALTICA comes to visit” – performances of the foreign groups at Lääne-Virumaa (Rural Life Festival at Sõmeru and Vinni Parish Days) and Põlva Days.

 

Sunday, June 2nd

11:00-19:00 Folklore Village is open at Tornide Väljak (Square of Towers)

14:00-16:00   Airing of the Folk Costumes/Picnic in the Folklore Village at Tornide Väljak (Square of Towers) (organized by the Estonian Folk Art and Craft Union)

17:00-19:00   Final concert of the Folklore Festival BALTICA at Tornide Väljak (Square of Towers)
